In an experiment described in a paper published inpsychologist Sociwl Thorndike asked commanding officers in the military to socia ratings of various characteristics of their subordinates. Those who refused felt that the majority of people would refuse as well. The results of these experiments demonstrate about is known in psychology as the false consensus effect.
